The fun starts!

Driving

So apart from the obvious...............that is that in Canada we drive on the right (as opposed to the left, not the wrong side). I am so fed up of hearing that!! It is easy enough to get used to that fact as the whole of the car is on the opposite side, the driving wheel, the mirrors etc. It did take me a while to go to the correct door to find the wheel though!
So you think it's the same but just on opposite sides? NO. Did you know that in Ontario (other provinces, especially Quebec are different, but then Quebec is always different) you can turn right on a red light?
Obviously you have to check to make sure you're not going to run down a pedestrian, but yes, you can turn right. Not in some areas of the city of Toronto though. It does free up the traffic flow but it freaked me out as a pedestrian before I knew this fact!

In Canada we have hundreds and thousands of STOP signs. It's like a a plague, they're everywhere! And then it's a guessing game as to who goes first. First to stop, first to go sounds simple until you get an idiot that either doesn't think they need to stop (plenty of those about) or that they are always first to go. So I err on the cautious side if I'm not sure but put my foot down if I am sure.

Highways (Motorways in Brit speak) are something else. Too many lanes and stupid or non existent signs so that you miss your turn off or are in the wrong lane. Or, like me, don't see a sign and mistakenly find yourself OFF the highway when you needed to stay on it. Whoever had a lane that goes off and stays on? Welcome to Canada, here they do. They don't have roundabouts but they are sneaking in slowly in places. They are realising (realizing in Can speak) that it makes the traffic flow more..............I can't wait for the day when there are 2 or more lane roundabouts and I can proudly be the only one who knows the etiquette of driving it properly!!

Snow is another thing entirely when it comes to driving. Nothing like no vision and a slippy road to make you feel insecure. Just head for the snowbank in preference to the nearest car if you are going to crash. Sure is enough to give you the heebie jeebies!
